Chocolate Granola Recipe
Chocolate Granola Recipe – A simple and easy homemade granola recipe featuring Nutella! Sweet. Salty. Satisfying.
What I love most about this particular granola recipe is that it’s simple and super easy. In fact, there’s only 5 ingredients! Thanks to the world’s best ingredient: Nutella, which acts as the binder and definitely takes center stage.
It’s been far too long since I’ve posted a recipe featuring Nutella on the ingredients list -Nutella is, by far, the most decadent, rich, heavenly, crazy delicious spread on the planet. It goes best with a spoon, but it’s also my favorite ingredient ever. Just sayin’.
Nutella always has a way of making life so much easier – for this recipe, it takes the place of the sugar, oil, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract required in most standard granola recipes.
What does that mean? Well, no sugar + oil means that you don’t have to heat the coating mixture on the stove-top – it can, instead, be done in the microwave in 30 short seconds.
Talk on Texture/Flavor
Crunchy
Instead of old-fashion oats, this recipe calls for quick oats and brown rice puffs. If you’ve ever had Nature’s Path Granola that’s why they use to get the crunchy texture.
Salty/Sweet
The decadent Nutella and sweet maple syrup paired with sea salt and chopped nuts creates this awesome sweet & salty flavor!
The granola takes about 30 minutes in the oven. Let it sit out, uncovered, for about 30 minutes. Exposure to air will allow it to crunch up as it cools. Then it’s time to dig into this dessert-like, yet deceivingly healthy concoction!
Serve it on {Strawberry} yogurt, with milk, sprinkle it on ice cream, or munch away while plopped on the couch at midnight. It’s ok, I won’t judge.
One of my absolute favorite breakfasts is this granola over a big bowl of strawberry yogurt. The sweetness of the yogurt compliments the salty aspect of the granola SO well! If you make this granola you HAVE to try that combo!! It’s so good!
Enjoy!
Chocolate Granola Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups quick oats
- 1 cup brown rice puffs
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 5 Tablespoons maple syrup (or honey)
- 3/4 cup chopped nuts (pecans, cashews, and almonds are my favorite)
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Mix the oats brown rice puffs, and nuts in a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, melt the Nutella and maple syrup together in the microwave (about 30 seconds). Stir until completely smooth. Pour Nutella mixture over oats and nuts and stir together with a rubber spatula until evenly coated.
- Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring at each 10 minute interval.
- Optional: Remove from the oven, (no need to stir).
- Let the granola cool completely before stirring in chocolate chips. Please note that it will be soft when removed from the oven– it will crunch up when exposed to air. Mine took about 30 minutes to crunch up. Enjoy!
