Honey Mustard Sausages
Honey Mustard Sausages – grilled chicken sausages with a spiral cut! The spiral cut gives extra surface area for a honey mustard glaze! This is a super easy grilled summer dinner!
We eat a lot of grilled chicken thighs in the summer. I love chicken thighs because it’s impossible to over cook them. They always come out juicy and amazing. And chicken thighs are a super reasonable price!
But we can only eat so much chicken before we start needing some variety.
Enter: chicken sausage.
I often see chicken sausage cooked on a skillet or in the stove. But chicken sausage seem like hot dogs. So I thought why not grill them?!
Spoiler alert: it was a knockout idea.
Chicken sausage is pre-cooked. So that means it’s a super quick dinner. It only takes 8 minutes to cook! And chicken sausage is cheap!
How do you do a spiral cut?
Take a skewer and spear it right through the center of the hot dog until it comes out the other side.
Lay the skewered hot dog on a cutting board.
Hold a knife at a 30-degree angle at the top of the hot dog. Cut into the top of the hot dog until you hit the skewer. Then keeping the knife in place, rotate the hot dog without moving the knife. This creates a spiral around the hot dog until you reach the other end. Cut thinner spirals than you think! Then you can remove the skewer and it’s spiraled.
The honey mustard glaze:
The glaze is a made of honey, dijon mustard, olive oil, and dried chives. It’s so flavorful. I like brushing it on the sausage while on the grill so it get sticky and sticks to the sausage.
You can also use it as a marinade on chicken thighs!
Recipe modifications:
You can use any kind of chicken sausage you can find. I use the chicken apple from Costco. You can also get it from most grocery stores!
I have also tried this recipe with hot dogs! It’s good, but I prefer chicken sausage.
This is a great afford meal to serve a crowd! It’s amazing and very inexpensive!
What to serve with these honey mustard sausages?
My perfect summer meal is honey mustard chicken sausage, house salad, and fresh watermelon!
Grilled vegetables also goes great! (Bell peppers, onions, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and whatever else you like!)
