Extra Crispy Oven Baked BBQ Chicken nuggets with chick fil a sauce

Recipe inspiration:

Griffin and I have been making this recipe almost monthly ever since first seeing it on TikTok. It has become a staple because it’s so easy and so good. It’s so easy Griffin can make it himself. (!!!)

Some adjustments we’ve made to make it simpler and (in my opinion) taste better.

First, you don’t need as much BBQ sauce as she says. Just enough to coat the chicken. Typically that’s about 1/3 cup for me.

Second, I use BBQ seasoning instead of all the spices she lists out. Sometimes the BBQ flavor isn’t strong enough with just BBQ sauce. So the BBQ seasoning helps the coating have a more intense BBQ flavor. I use store bought BBQ seasoning for this recipe. My favorite is Jack Daniel’s pork rub.

Third, serve it with Chick-Fil-A sauce!!

What to serve with these Barbecue Chip Chicken Nuggets

Our favorite dinner is: BBQ Chicken Nuggets + roasted sweet potatoes with honey + steamed green beans. It’s the perfect combination!!! (For timing: Put the sweet potatoes in the oven when you start making the nuggets.)

But you could also use store bought sweet potato fries or regular french fries.

For when you’re trying to keep the meal healthier, top the chicken nuggets over this strawberry salad. Or this fuji apple salad.

Homemade BBQ Chip Chicken Nuggets

Barbecue chip chicken nuggets – super easy, ultra crispy, baked in the oven, homemade chicken nugget recipe. Only 4 ingredients!

Ingredients:

1.5 lbs chicken breasts, cut into 1.5-inch cubes
1/3 cup BBQ sauce
2 Tablespoons BBQ seasoning
1 (13) oz bag regular BBQ chips, you can use kettle but I prefer regular bbq chips

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. (You can use foil but make sure to spray with non-stick spray)
In a blender or food processor, add the chips and pulse until pulverized. You want the chips to be the same size as panko bread crumbs!
In a medium bowl, add the chicken pieces, BBQ sauce, and BBQ seasoning. Stir to evenly coat.
In a shallow bowl, add the crushed BBQ chips.
Take each chicken piece and roll in the crumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs stick. (If you run out of crumbs, just bake the chicken coated in BBQ sauce. Still will be really good!)
Bake for 12-16 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through. It may take more or less time depending on your chicken nugget size.
