Loaded Puppy Chow Muddy Buddies Recipe

This Loaded Muddy Buddies Puppy Chow Recipe takes classic puppy chow and loads it up with mini Reese’s, peanuts, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips for an easy party snack.

Loaded Puppy Chow Muddy Buddies Recipe

I started making this Loaded Puppy Chow Muddy Buddies Recipe and now I can’t stop making it. It is quite literally a dump-everything-in-a-bowl-and-mix situation, but every single time I bring it somewhere, people are obsessed.

It starts with classic Muddy Buddies and then loads them up with peanuts, mini Reese’s cups, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips. You get everything you already love about puppy chow, but with way more texture and little pockets of extra chocolate and peanut butter mixed throughout.

One thing to note: the peanuts are important! There’s so much sweet stuff going on that the salty crunch breaks everything up and makes you want to keep going back for another handful.

Store-bought Muddy Buddies are the move here

You could 100% make homemade puppy chow for this. I have made plenty of homemade puppy chow in my life, and I know it’s not technically difficult.

But it is messy.

Powdered sugar somehow ends up everywhere, you have leftover bags of cereal, and you have bowls and bags to clean. And after making this both ways, I really don’t think homemade makes enough of a difference once you add all the other stuff.

So I use the bags of store-bought Muddy Buddies and have absolutely no regrets. Open two bags, dump them into a giant bowl, add everything else, mix, done.

This is exactly the kind of recipe I want when I’m already making a bunch of other food for a party.

The best part is all the extra stuff

The ratio of puppy chow to mix-ins is pretty loaded, which is intentional. I don’t want to dig through an entire bowl hoping to find one mini Reese’s cup. (Or find out my husband has dug out all the mix-ins because there weren’t enough for the “perfect bite”).

So with this ratio, you’re getting chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, peanuts, and Reese’s in pretty much every handful.

I also love that all the mix-ins are different sizes and textures. The Muddy Buddies are crispy, the peanuts are salty and crunchy, the peanut butter/chocolate chips are small enough to sneak into every handful, and then you occasionally get a whole mini Reese’s cup.

It feels a little like puppy chow meets a really good trail mix, except only if we’re using the term “trail mix” very generously here.

An easy party snack you can make ahead

This has become one of my favorite things to throw together when we’re having people over because there is truly nothing to it. You can make a huge bowl in about two minutes, and it’s one of those snacks people just stand around eating all night.

It’s also perfect for making ahead. There’s nothing that needs to stay warm, nothing that gets soggy, and nothing you have to assemble right before people arrive. Just mix everything together and keep it in an airtight container until you’re ready to put it out.

And if you’re taking it somewhere, throw it into a big container or zip-top bag and go. It might be one of the lowest-effort things you bring, but based on how quickly the bowl disappears, no one needs to know that.
