Why I wrote this cookbook:
I’ve always had a love for cooking. Not the kind that takes you to culinary school, but the comforting kind of home cooking that brings people together. There’s something so magical about making food for people and inviting them into your home. It’s a big, warm hug feeling a restaurant could never replicate.
But hosting and cooking for people can be intimidating. The best kind of host creates a laid-back, welcoming space, surrounded by food that’s comforting yet incredibly delicious… which seems like a tall order. But I knew if I wanted to have a life full of cooking for people, then I needed to get comfortable hosting. And the only way to get there was to practice. So I started inviting people over for dinner. And eventually, I realized people don’t care if you serve them a full meal. All they want is to be invited over to spend quality time together with some great bites of food.
The more I realized this, the more I made appetizers over a full meal. Because appetizers are a lot easier, faster, and less to juggle. I began sharing the appetizers I was making on social media, and the response was incredible! You all loved them more than I could have ever anticipated. It was easy to see we all have a desire to bring people together over good food.
So here we are! After hearing your love for appetizers loud and clear (and your need for more), I decided to put together this cookbook—a collection of recipes dedicated entirely to appetizers. My hope is these recipes will inspire you to gather your loved ones and create your own layers of happiness, one bite at a time.
About this cookbook:
Whenever I serve appetizers, I’m always watching which appetizers get eaten and which just sit there.
I’ve noticed the most popular appetizers are the ones that check these boxes: easy to eat, tastes amazing, and hard to stop eating. The most important of the 3 is that it’s easy to eat. If it takes longer than five seconds to pop it in your mouth, it’s too big of a commitment and people don’t seem to eat it. Appetizers that check all three boxes are what I call “Knockout Appetizers.”
During testing, I had my husband “knockout approve” every recipe. He has a knack for identifying truly amazing, crave-worthy, hard to stop eating dishes. As a second level of testing, I brought every appetizer to a social gathering to make sure it was easy to eat and actually got eaten. I cut any recipe that didn’t get eaten quick enough (even if my husband approved it).
The final list of recipes that made it in this cookbook is a collection of the absolute best appetizers. I’m so proud of these recipes and so excited for you to try them. These are the recipes you’ll become known for. Appetizers your family will ask you to make again and again.
The best part is none of the recipes in this book are overly complicated. If you can make buffalo chicken dip, you can make any of these appetizers. A key lesson I’ve learned is that approachable, delicious recipes always outperform complicated, fancy dishes— especially when it comes to appetizers.
Also, I promise these recipes won’t keep you chained to the kitchen all day. They’re designed to be quick and enjoyable to make. That way you can focus on what really matters—creating memories with your friends and family.
I’m so excited for you to get your copy and try the recipes in this cookbook!
