Triple Chocolate Seven Layer Magic Bars

Fudgy, Gooey Seven Layer Magic Bars with an Oreo crust, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, macadamia nuts, coconut flakes, and sweetened condensed milk. Like your favorite Seven Layer Magic Bars with an extra dosage of chocolate.

Chocolate Magic BarsThis recipe is dedicated to all of you chocoholics… Today we are sharing something sort of amazing, wonderful, crazy, fudgy, nutty, gooey, and hands down AWESOME. Triple Chocolate Seven Layer Magic Bars.

Traditional Magic Bars, also known as 7 Layer Bars, are a layered dessert bar with a crumbly graham cracker crust, then topped with layers of butterscotch, coconut, chocolate, and nuts. Everything sticks together from gooey sweetened condensed milk that caramelizes and gets thick on top when baked.

I took all of the flavors in the classic Seven Layer/Magic Bar and added an extra {triple} dosage of chocolate.. And you know what? These over-the-top chocolatey magic bars give the classic bars a run for their money.

Death by Chocolate Magic BarsMaking a 7 layer bar (aka magic bar) is SO easy.  Throw a bunch of stuff into a pan and cover it with sweetened condensed milk – the options are endless! And today, the option is Chocolate.

I hope you’re ready for this.

Death by Chocolate Magic BarIn these bars you’ll find a buttery Oreo crust on the bottom, followed by a layer of nutty chocolate toffee bits, rich butterscotch chips, macadamia nuts and/or pecans for an extra nutty crunch, lip smackin’ Nutella swirls, and concealed with gooey sweetened condensed milk.

A couple side notes:

I like to top mine with sea salt to cut the richness/sweetness, but if you can handle the chocolate overload feel free to leave that step out.

For the nuts, I used Macadamia nuts for fun and pecans because they are in the original bars. I love the tropical combination coconut and macadamia nuts… takes me right back to sitting in our cabana listening to the waves in Hawaii eating chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

Triple Chocolate Magic BarsIt’s like one big pan of gooey, decadent chocolate bliss. You really can’t beat the 7-layer bar for its complete simplicity: pressing down a cookie crust and then throwing everything else on top. It’s SO easy!

Enjoy! 🙂

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • 2 1/4 cup oreo cookie crumbs (about a 10 ounce package of chocolate cookies or wafers)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

Layers:

  • 3/4 cup chocolate toffee bits (Heath)
  • 1/2 cup Butterscotch chips
  • 3/4 cup sweetened, shredded coconut
  • 1 cup nuts (I like to use half macadamia nuts, half pecans)
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9X13-inch aluminum or glass pan with foil and lightly grease with cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, toss together the cookie crumbs and butter until the mixture is combined. Spread it evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Sprinkle the toffee bits over the crust followed by the Butterscotch Chips, coconut, and nuts.
  4. Spoon teaspoonfuls of the Nutella in little dollops over the bars (if you want more of a drizzle, warm the Nutella slightly in the microwave).
  5. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk back and forth evenly over the bars.
  6. (Optional) Top the bars with a few extra goodies for appearance.
  7. Bake the bars for 25-30 minutes until the edges are golden.
  8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. These are amazing at room temperature or chilled.
