I remember making this puppy chow for a party years ago. When I was without a food blog because food blogs were (are?) nerdy and weird. Along with my cookies and creme dipped chocolate pretzels, and they both disappeared in less than an hour. Shocking.

Ha! Not really. This recipe is dangerously addicting. It is physically impossible to STOP eating bite by bite by bite. Before you know it, the entire batch will be gone. I speak (type?) from experience.

Just like all of my puppy chow recipes, today’s version requires no baking at all. That’s right, give your oven (and yourself!) a rest. There are 6 ingredients in this recipe.  Yes, six.  And you may just have them all in your pantry right now.

All you’ll need for this recipe is 1 giant bowl and a saucepan.  The sauce pan is for melting your nutella and butter. I mean come on, how can anything that starts with nutella and butter be bad? Then you add the peppermint extract and salt to the nutella mixture, then everything gets added to a big bowl with the cereal. Toss. Pile on the powdered sugar. Toss. Stuff. your. face.

For puppy chow, I like to use honey nut corn chex for extra flavor and crunchiness. I have tried rice chex, but I never seem to like it so much.

This new version of puppy chow stays nice and crunchy for days. If it will last that long! Does anyone else think that puppy chow should be illegal? For how easy it is to make and how addicting it is to eat – it should be a crime. Totally not bikini friendly, but totally worth every chocolate-y bite. I speak from experience when I say that “one bite” of today’s sweet snack is not enough. “One taste” is not enough.  “One small bowl” is not enough.  Heck, even a huge bowl is not enough. Trust me, you will NOT be able to put this stuff down.

Mint Chocolate Chip Puppy Chow {Muddy Buddies}

Crunchy puppy chow/Muddy Buddies coated in chocolate and melted Andies’ Chocolate Mints, then smothered with lots and lots of powdered sugar galore. Addicting!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup Nutella
1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 (13.8 oz) box Honey Nut Corn Chex cereal (About 8 cups)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, or more depending on preference

Directions:

  1. In a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat, melt the butter and Nutella. Stir constantly until smooth and no clumps remain. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and salt.
  2. Pour the cereal into a large bowl. Pour warm Nutella mixture just around the outside of the bowl and gently fold until each piece of cereal is coated.
  3. Pouring the Nutella around the outside will prevent the Nutella from clumping together in big globs, and instead evenly coat the cereal and pistachios.
  4. Add the powdered sugar to the bowl and toss to coat. Add more or less powdered sugar depending on your preference.
  5. Pour onto a baking sheet and let sit for about 15 minutes so that chocolate and the powdered sugar have time to set. Enjoy!
